Fred Phelps, Thou Art Schooled!
As a teacher, I am so incredibly proud of the group of 150 students who met the five Westboro Baptist Church protestors outside of Sidwell. If you aren't aware, good ol' WBC and Fred Phelps were at their protesting ways again outside of the school that President Obama's daughters attend. Let me say that again: OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL that the President's DAUGHTERS (MINOR DAUGHTERS) ATTEND.
In true form, the WBC protestors brought their "God hates you" signs to the school. They did not anticipate being met by the students; I am sure. I don't know who organized the students together to meet them, but I am so proud of those youth. Let it be a reminder to those of us adults who feign fear for the future. Our world is in good hands. There are lots of good kiddos out there.
Here's the LINK.
That's all.

aww I miss your posts Krissy Cole!!
Oh to be a fly on the wall on those jerks day of judgment. Can you even imagine the wrath of God on those people for causing unbelievers even more reason to not believe in the God of the Bible just because they had to go and be a holes "in Jesus name"...? Makes me want to vomit.
Sure, they practice the Freedom of Speech, but what they practice is also stupid.
Good for them. Maybe there is hope for our future leaders after all. ;)
ugh, that guy comes to my town from time to time. i just don't understand how someone can preach hate in the name of someone who died for love.
i applaud the youth and whoever organized them, they did the right thing. the youth are the future, it's high time we stopped doubting them.
Oh, that' priceless! There's still hope for us all.
I feel sorry for anyone who attacks children in the name of God. They will get what's coming to them.
I have never been more proud of the youth in this country. Way to go, guys!!
Should had been run over on Wisconsin Ave for protesting. :sighs: Anyway Sidwell is pretty big, they were protesting to the trees.
we can do the best we can to train and educate our kids to the best of our abilities.. but even then, their decisions will have huge impacts on the rest of us.. we can only hope=/
Okay I should probably post this comment after reading the link so I don't sound ignorant, but I'm lazy...what did the youth talk to them about? And how did they even get a word in edgewise with those crazies? From what I've seen of them in interviews on TV, they always interrupt with their hate speech, and it's damn near impossible to have a conversation with any of them.
That is so cool. Thanks.
I think that it's so crazy that protestors would protest outside of a school like that. But then again, WBC is known for being the smartest or sanest group in the world so I can't say that I'm surprised.
Good for them! The WBC "people" (and I use that term loosely!) were in our city a couple weeks ago with their hate messages and it was awesome to see so many people protesting them right back. They were protesting in front of a high school because it is racially diverse and I gotta say, the HS kids were great. WBC didn't stay long!
slimy looser people!!
Regardless of whether or not someone agrees with his policies, it's not cool to act that way in front of children. Â Bravo to the kids.
